Some random memories of 2012

Decorations

Because of the busy term, we didn't have time to look at the decorations in the classrooms, but as you can see, most classrooms had at least one tree.

Hollyleaf lights decorate a whitebaord

Even a classroom piano gets the festive treatment

This tree sits among handy reminders about presentation of work!

Below, this is one of the children's favourite rooms - lights everywhere, and festive pictures on the whiteboard - plus usually festive music as well.

End of term

Some classes brought in toys on the last day

Others made paper chains and decorations 

 ... from some of our scrap paper

(in the background, Mrs Roden plans a song for January!).

Some children decided to pretend to be teachers for the morning. This boy got lots of stars and smily faces from his new teacher!

Art and drama - Y5 style

Earlier in the Year, Y5's Art Club decorated plates in the style of artist Clarice Cliff.

In English they dramatised "Six Dinner Sid" - about a cat who ate too much. 

Below, after too many dinners. Many of us know this feeling after our Christmas food! 

Searching for more food! Some people never learn.

Letters to Santa, and glowsticks

Miss Johnstone's English group wrote letters to Santa

Here they are posting them. Not long now, children......

And, below, a further picture from Thursday's concert in the Town Hall. This one was taken from the balcony, and shows the glowsticks waving as the choirs sang "Angels"

Now that's what I call Christmas - concert

Thursday was our Christmas Concert in the Town Hall.

Here's the start:

The concert was a sellout, and a great success. Here are some of the audience.

Next concert, Friday March 8th

Nativity Rock - KS2's church service

Friday afternoon, last day of term. Location, St James' Church.

At the front of the church, Mr Hayward and Mr Kimberley check they've got what they need,

...while at the back, Mrs Shackleton helps the children into their costumes.

 Just the last king to go now, ...

... then we're all ready in our seats.

The animals are ready for the stable scene,  

Mr Shackleton has lit the candles. Time for the electric lights to be switched off, ready for our candle-lit performance of Nativity Rock.

Traditional carols mixed with contemporary songs as the story of the first Christmas was told simply and beautifully.

No pictures - but if you weren't there, you missed a treat.

The blog will continue over Christmas, catching up the things we've missed over the weeks.

Junior Party Day

It was Key Stage 2's turn to party today.

Colourful cakes...

...and delicious home-baked savouries!

Another lovely day!

And, while the party was going on, a group of children went to Nelson House to perform parts of their nativity for the residents. The children sang like little angels.
