Arts and Maths Project Year 5

Mrs Fellows and her Y5 Maths group were honoured to be asked to take part in an Arts Council/Creative Partnerships project involving Maths and the Arts

The start was to look at shapes in the environment, inside....

... and outside

Manmade...
 ....and natural

We are having a whole school Maths focus on shape, and this is a really interesting way to do it

The group have a further session planned later in the month

Pictures from earlier: Year 1's Working Together session

Above, Mrs Batchelor explains to the parents what the aims of the session are, and how they can help their children.

Then the children join in (below)
Just look at the concentration and enjoyment on the children's faces

All the research says that children do better when their parents get involved
These pictures show you why!

Remembrance - year 2 visit the War Memorial

We always celebrate Remembrance Day at Jesson's with a two minute silence, and a reading of "For the Fallen" by Laurence Binyon.
This year Year 2 made special wreaths and took one to Dudley's War Memorial.
Another of their wreaths hangs on the cross in school, and the third is on a display.

It was a very solemn occasion.
Children from different countries, creeds and beliefs stood silently remembering those who have died in wars.
We hope the children will always remember the experience, and the reason behind it all.

New choirs at Jesson's

As a school specialising in the performing arts, we like to make sure children get plenty of chances to perform.
Here are some of our Reception choir who have been out singing at the nurseries where some of them came from only a few short weeks ago

"How they've grown up" commented one of the Nursery staff

It's quite daunting doing a performance aged only 4!

Not content with children, we've started on the adults.

Here's the advert which appeared in the local papers...

And here's the result.

The first night of Fusion, Dudley's newest rock choir.

Around 100 people attended...

and seemed to be having a good time
