In fact, they positively enjoyed it, as you can see!

The fantastic staff atJesson's

School was open today (Thursday), thanks to the heroic actions of staff, plus a couple of governors, who got in from 7 o'clock onwards to clear snow. Here's a picture of School Street being cleared. And if you click on this link (It works now)

http://www.jessons.dudley.sch.uk/snow.html

it will take you to a slide show of staff working hard. The main entrance was under about 5 inches of snow when we arrived. All cleared by the time the children arrived for school.

Thankyou to the whole staf team.
And a special thankyou to the caretaking team who have worked hard the whole week to try to keep us open.
PS Non uniform day tomorrow too - for staff and children (in case we need to do more snow clearing).
We will be open!!!!

School opens come what may

Important Notice:

School will be open
on Thursday and Friday
24th and 25th January

Staff will be coming in earlier, prepared to help with snow-clearing etc, so everyone should be able to get to school safely and move about safely.

As before, if you wish to bring children a little later, to avoid traffic hold ups, that's fine. And the same at the end of the day.

Staff will be coming dressed to clear snow if necessary, so for Thursday and Friday, children can treat the two days as non-uniform days!

Urgent (Wednesday)

Wednesday 23rd January
Sorry, but school is closed again.

School Street already has lots of snow on it, and is dangerous.
All our carefully cleared paths are covered again.
It is still snowing (6.30 a.m.) and shows no sign of stopping.

Snow part 3, Tuesday continued

Above, oranges ready for the children to eat at breaktime. Really refreshing on a chilly day.

The waterfall is still flowing in the snow.

The children got quite snowy themselves after playing outside

Year 1 children leaping from mat to hoop in PE, keeping fit inside too.
More pictures of the younger children on tomorrow's blog - lots of pictures taken today.

More snow pictures (and more on the way) Pictures, not snow!

Above, Mrs Roden helped to build a snowman

Below - the picnic tables show how much snow we've had

More snow fun
Same rules apply tomorrow (Tuesday):

We're open:
Come in even if snow makes you late.

No late slips will be issued until after 10.30.
Early pickups are allowed - it kept the traffic moving today when people came at different times. We hope it wasn't too much of a nightmare for you.

PS No Nursery Working Together on Friday - we'll let you know the rescheduled date.

Snow!!!!!

School is open today. The snow is quite deep though!
What a lot of fun! At Jesson's we encourage children to play out in the snow - and even to do snowball throwing.

Look carefully at the picture beow: you'll see Mr Seager and Mr Shackleton joining in the fun on duty
Tuesday 22nd January 2013

Jesson's is open today

We expect everyone to come to school today:
  • the main roads are clear, but side roads are still bad
  • please walk in if you can. This will help us
  • to avoid congestion at the start and end of the day:
    • our registers will be open until 10.30 (no late slips till then). We don't want everyone to arrive at the same time
    • children may be collected any time after 2.15
    • clubs will run as normal
  • The Year 4 trip to the theatre is on at the moment - we'll let parents know if that changes
The caretaking team have cleared paths to every single entrance door - a fantastic effort.

NB Children's shoes, boots and wellingtons will get very wet coming to school - pupils can bring in slippers, or other dry shoes, to change into.

Urgent - News for Monday

There is no weather warning issued for tomorrow, and the snow is forecast to stop by early morning, so:

Jesson's will be open on Monday, but not for Reception and Nursery

The caretaking team will be there by 6 o'clock clearing paths. A big thankyou to them: we're very grateful for their efforts.

It would help us all if you could park in Parkway Road and walk up School Street, as this is not likely to be gritted (and we're not supposed to do it!).

If there are any further updates, they will be posted on this blog, and also on the school website as soon as any decision is made.

UPDATED at 19.20 on 20/01/13
Posted by the Bloglady at 18.50 on Sunday Jan 20th, and not as the time/date on the header of this blog.

Urgent!

Sorry, but school will be closed today. (Friday 18th January)
The forecast is for heavy snow which is already coming down (6.00a.m.) and the sky is full of it, so, to guarantee people's safety, the decision is to close.
This decision was taken early, and I hope this makes it easier for you.

(NB Please ignore the small date at the top of this post, which still reads Thursday - this really was posted on Friday, but I can't seem to change the time/date setting!)

Cakes

Strange things are happening in the Food Tech Room.....

Cooks at work!

Carefully measured ingredients

The finished product

Why? Raising funds to help subsidise the Year 3 trips.
(And also, cakes are rather nice)

Wintry weather

Above, the wintry weather continues, but at least the sky is not grey and heavy

Most children had their playtime indoors
This is Year 1 eating their snacks in the Small Hall

The cosy winter coats hang on the pegs ready for the icy journey home.

But it wasn't too cold for 4S, who went over to work with their partner class, Reception Yellow.
Just the right weather for a snowman picture!

New Board

Because we are so tight for space, we've had to teach in new places this year.

This poor English group has managed without a whiteboard since September

In the old days, children learnt at school without white boards at all. Imagine that!!!!!

A snowy Monday morning

7.30 a.m. The quadrangle is deserted (and snowy)

The snow covered tree outside the Glass Corridor - and the pictures of Autumn trees inside.

Someone's been very busy clearing snow to make safe paths. Thankyou Mr Rowbottom!

And, earlier in the morning, Dolly - the Bloglady's dog - paddles in knee-deep snow.
(Knee-deep to her, that is!)
