Hippopotomonstrosesquipedaliophobia
4F's assembly was about words
It featured lots of tongue twisters,...
...some help from the partner class...
...and more more tongue twisters...
...as well as interesting facts about words.
The band were particularly taken with the explanation about the word hippopotomonstrosesquipedaliophobia, which ironically enough means fear of long words!

A star is born
Our football team's first outing was to play away at Woodside.
Look who got 4 of the goals in our 5-1 victory!
Well done to our new star, and to the whole team!
(Lots of them were Year 5 children too!)

Staff teams
Our staff met in teams to plan various areas of the curriculum
Here are some of the English team
The RE and Curriculum teams are sorting out the RE resources. We have a new syllabus this year, so they are looking at what new things we might need
We have lots of resources already
The maths team discuss Abacus, our new maths scheme
The PE team discuss PE lessons and sports clubs
Mrs Bachelor, who hates being photographed, tries to blend in with the wall! (Unsuccessfully.)

In Reception, children are learning about new letters

Here is Mr Brookes, who is a Sports teacher from Ellowes Hall Sports College. He is working with Year 5 at the moment. Today, they played tag rugby. (Hope to get some pictures next week!)

To the library
The Year 1 classes have been going to the library this week.
Sorry the pictures are a little blurred, but I thought they deserve to be shown anyway.
Borrowing a book...
Listening to a story
Reading a story
The children got such a lot from the experience- they would love to go again.

Reece Brown, footballer, and former pupil
Birmingham City: Lee Clark tells Colin Tattum he believes Reece Brown has a bright future ahead of him
The Blues manager gave the 17-year-old his debut as a substitute in the miserable defeat at Burnley.
And midfielder Brown earned Clark’s praise for his display.
Brown, from Dudley, remains on Scholarship terms at St Andrew’s. But that is surely going to change following his big breakthrough.
“The plus point of the night for me,” said Clark.
“Super little footballer, great technician, and for someone who is so slight he is still very strong when he has got possession of the ball.
“I was really pleased with what he did.
“And it’s tough as well when you go onto a pitch and a team aren’t playing particularly well and in a position where we’re not having a lot of joy.
“He’s the only player who has probably enhanced his reputation on the night." "
19th September, B'ham Evening Mail
And this is from the 20th September
"Reece Brown’s journey from a position of uncertainty to a place in Blues first team is an inspiration to any young footballer.
It came as something of a surprise that Brown didn’t get a professional contract when Blues secured a clutch of Academy products on their first deals in the summer.
Instead of sulking, the midfielder returned in pre-season very determined to make his mark – and how he has done that.
Brown, 17, received his debut for Blues as a substitute at Burnley, having impressed Lee Clark since July.
“Reece came back from the break a much more mature football player,” said Richard Beale, Blues under-21/development coach.
“And he really impressed everybody, not just in training but in games.
“We all knew he was a good player, but it was a case of bringing that out in the way it has happened." "
Congratulations, Reece - we remember that determination very well from your time at Jesson's

Golf - and science!
Friday after school saw the start of a new club - Golf Club!
This week the children were indoors practising chipping shots
On Friday, Year 4 had a scavenger hunt as part of their science lesson.
They had to collect information outside to use during the lesson
Very exciting activity!
Even keeping a written record seems fun when it's done outdoors with a real purpose!

Artistic fun
It was the first Working Together of the new school year
Year Two parents and children worked on messy artistic activities.
The activities included paper weaving,...
...printing (with balloons)...
...and wax resist.
Here's Mr Welch, who ran the session.
The papier mache bowls were a great success.
Quite a lot of work was not dry to take home today.
On their feedback forms, parents said how much they enjoyed the sessions, and that they would be trying some of the activities again at home
