Get the most out of computers!

Working Together for Y3 was about computers
Mr Mitchell spoke about:
  • internet safety
  • using computers to learn maths skills
  • what we do in school
  • how parents can help at home.

Then people moved to the ICT suites, to try things for themselves

Those with small children went Miss Glover to our smaller ICT suite, where there were a few toys for toddlers
Comments :
"I enjoyed seeing how the children can use the computers. I enjoyed finding out they can use the computer for maths"

"it was different and interesting"

"I enjoyed watching my child use computer with such confidence and having fun whilst learning also getting an insight into what my child is doing at school."

"I enjoy spending time with my daughter. I think you do a great job"

"The most beneficial thing was to get the website names. Me and my twins enjoyed it because they could play games and do their maths at the same time which is very educative as well. We learnt about different websites and kids will be playing these maths games on their tablets at home"

"I felt this session was very well organised"

"very informative"

Mrs Bachelor and Mrs Madison looked after the rest of the year group, so thanks to them too!

Visiting author

Here are some pictures of  Dave Lowe, the author of My Hamster is a Genius and other Hamster books.

He was a pupil here 30 years ago.

All year groups saw him and really enjoyed the day, asking him very intelligent questions such as what it was like to be an author and how he wrote the books...

...as well as how much money he earned. (ahem!)
It was great to see a former pupil, and one who had done so well!
Thankyou for coming, Dave! The children and staff really enjoyed your visit.

What a turn out!

A cold November evening didn't stop our Year 6 parents (and their families) from coming to our meeting about SATs

There were people of all ages there

It was a record turnout

Some people even had to sit at dining tables because we hadn't got enough space

Everyone had a go at doing some SATs questions

A really great evening

Well done, parents - and other family members!
The maths:

Attend SATs meeting = know how to help your child

Know how to help your child = better SATs results

Better SATs results = higher set at secondary school

Higher set at secondary school = better GCSEs

Better GCSEs better job prospects

These families are on their way!

It was wet today. The tops of the tower blocks are misty. Playtime was not much fun!

But look inside: Year 5 had an indoor PE lesson
Above, hoop-running
Below, measuring long jumps from a standing start

Dribbling hockey balls

Racing over minihurdles

Tricky footwork required

Throwing bean bags accurately to land on scoring mats

Jumping side to side
The lesson went ahead with Mr Brookes and student helpers from Ellowes Hall Sports College. Not the hockey and tag rugby lessons which were planned, but great fun anyway!
And thanks to Jesson's staff too, of course!

Year 5 Working Together

Here are the photos from Year 5's Working Together.
Technical issues prevented them being shown earlier, but I think you'll agree they are worth the wait.

First, the parents had a go at a mental maths test! Look at that concentration!

Then they looked at all sorts of maths resources and games to help with mental maths

Lots of discussion about how we do things these days!

Lovely to see so many parents!

Here's Miss Barker looking at a computer game

Mrs Fellows talks through another activity

There were lots of positive comments on our feedback sheets.

Holiday fun, part 1

making firework pictures
 decorating a biscuit

eating a picnic lunch
Fun for everyone - all ages enjoyed themselves
