Monday is Music Day at Jesson's

It's Monday, so it's Music Day.
All our instrumental lessons now take place on a Monday.
Here are some of our keyboard players;

They're so busy they don't notice the beautiful flower display outside the window.
And Year 4 listen intently to Mrs Pennycook. They're about to start learning the violin as a class group.
There's lots to remember and take in.
 It's important to listen carefully
Finally the delighted children begin to play.
And why are they wearing PE kit? Because straight after this they have a PE lesson. Music and PE, what a lovely start to the week.

Olympic projects

The projects are in but the judging hasn't started.

Here is a quick peek at some of the entries. More on this next week

We had:
beautifully published ones..

...various models...
...the athletics track...
... the rowing at Eton Dorney...

...artistic entries....

...the Olympic torch

...and this is an example from a child who was in Reception last year.
There were a massive number of entries - this selection is just to show you the range. The standard was very high.
Judging begins on Monday. More pictures then - and hopefully some winners announced soon.

New to Year 1

These children started Year 1 this week.

Listening carefully to the teacher (or looking at the Bloglady!)

Showing the class how to draw a portrait
Sitting down to work
Listening to extra instructions
Getting the next piece of work
Someone's got the Hungry Caterpillar book on the desk.
How quickly the children are settling in to the new way of working!

First ever school dinners

Here are our new Reception children having dinner at school for the first time.
Below, some bring sandwiches...
 ...while others have school dinners

There's a good range of food: lasagne (including vegetarian), fish, jacket potato with cheese, chicken wraps, cheese salad wraps....
...with a choice from the salad bar, or hot vegetables (no picture of those, sorry)
...plus cheesecake, jelly, flapjack, yoghurt, fruit (grapes, orange, peach, pineapple, banana or melon), cheese and biscuits. Or a wide range of sandwiches if you prefer!
There are plenty of staff to help out - and make sure children eat the right food for their dietary requirements  (eg vegetarian/no pork/halal/egg allergy and so on)
Tomorrow, we take a look at Year 1, plus on Sunday, a sneak preview of some of our Olympic projects

First full day at "big school"

First full day in Reception for these children
Starting with a talking and listening session on the carpet. you can only talk when you're holding the bear
Outside, at the sand tray
Imaginations were let loose with costumes from the emergency services...
..but the bricks were the most popular of all...
..very popular...
...I'm carrying mine in my barrow...
Time for a refreshment break
Another sand tray. Indoors this time
This little boy was so absorbed in his work he didn't even notice the photographer

Our beautiful school

It was the first day back and the grounds were looking lovely.
The planters in the quad were still flowering
The raised beds were blooming
I have made this picture extra large so you can look at our lovely waterfall, built as part of an Arts Council project about eight years ago

The watering can didn't get much use last term - the wettest summer since records began
Note the blue sky now we're back at school!
The sunlight on the leaves of the silver birch.

Children? Oh yes we had some of those too!
But you'll see plenty of them throughout the term.
Tomorrow, some of our new starters in the Reception classes
